Our mission

AASI’s mission is to promote integrated, safe, and sustainable maritime and intermodal transport. We support industry stakeholders, enhance infrastructure, and facilitate mobility and the smooth flow of traffic across the African continent.
This mission is broken down into several priority objectives, which guide all of our actions:

AASI in Brief
Established to address the growing challenges of maritime transport in Africa, the African Association for the Promotion and Development of Maritime Transport and Intermodality (AASI) brings together public and private stakeholders around a shared ambition: building an integrated, efficient, and sustainable transport system across the African continent.
Maritime transport represents a major strategic lever for Africa’s economic development. With more than 90% of Africa’s international trade moving by sea, optimizing port infrastructure, intermodal corridors, and logistics chains is a critical priority for enhancing the continent’s competitiveness.
The AASI operates at multiple levels:
- Supporting policymakers and institutions in developing maritime transport policies tailored to African realities.
- Assisting port and logistics operators in implementing high-performance intermodal solutions.
- Promoting intermodality as a practical response to road congestion and high transport costs.
- Supporting the sustainable development of Africa’s maritime sector by integrating environmental and climate considerations.
- Strengthening human and institutional capacity through training and knowledge exchange.
The association also plays an active role in harmonizing regulatory and legal frameworks for maritime transport across African states, thereby facilitating intra-African trade and supporting the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
