The organization of activities and traffic around ports, as well as their connection with the surrounding territory and hinterland (roads, railways, rivers), constitutes a complex and multidimensional challenge for the integration of ports into their environment. In this regard, a port’s “value proposition” is not determined solely by its geographic location and the productivity / quality / safety of the operations carried out there, but also by the economic and logistics-industrial activities that develop within its hinterland. The latter must serve both as a source of value creation (provided that the related labor pool is sufficient in both quantity and quality) and as an interface between the port and the continent, ensuring smooth and efficient flow…

  • What are the challenges facing port excellence and territorial development today?
  • Why is a holistic and multidimensional approach integrating ports, hinterlands, and corridors the key to the success of a competitive port sector in Africa?
  • What alternatives could unlock the current situation and facilitate smoother exchanges between ports and their hinterlands?
  • What about improving multimodal connectivity, and what role should roads, railways, and inland waterways play?
  • What economic model should be adopted to address this approach?
  • How can flow management be ensured within the framework of a comprehensive supply chain vision, taking into account broader issues beyond maritime transport alone or the strict efficiency and performance of ports?
  • The synchronization of maritime and land-based flows can improve performance, define areas of intervention and responsibility, and strengthen the interface capacity among the many stakeholders involved: who are the key actors, and what roles should they play?

How can control of information flows be ensured as a guarantee of performance and service scalability?
